Five reasons why you and your child should consider going to these tryouts.

(1) Travel tends to raise a player's level of play. Edison teams play against teams from other towns, offering greater competition and more incentive for improvement. The teams practice twice per week and get professional training.

(2) At these tryouts your kids will try out with other players of the recreation league only. They are not competing against players currently on travel teams. This fact should reduce, if not eliminate, any anxiety or fear of not "measuring up".

(3) They have a very good chance of making the team. We need 12-14 players to field a U9 or U10 team and 14-18 players to field an U11, U12 or U13 team. As long as we get the required numbers your child will play. We will make two teams if needed!

(4) If your child is currently winning most or all of his/her games, there is no real challenge. Offer your child or your team a real challenge. New challenges develop stronger skills.

(5) This is an excellent opportunity to try Travel and see if you like it. Are you worried about the commitment? Unlike the teams currently in the Travel program, you are only committing for ONE Spring season, which is ten (10) games. This gives both the players and the coaches a chance to try out the program and decide if they would like to participate in future Travel seasons.

For a look at how a former coach viewed his Travel team, visit the aging web site of The Edison Eagles - a recent U14 Boys team. The coach admits to being remiss in reporting on games of the Spring 2003 season, but if you take the links to the "Fall 2001" and the "Spring 2002" web pages and Click on "REPORTS" you will get an excellent idea of his opinions about the Eagles. Incidentally, this team resulted from the Special Tryouts for Spring 2001 Teams. They had a very positive developmental season and last spring they played their fifth and final season together. They experienced some effective roster changes along the way, yet retained a solid core of the original team. And I believe they all enjoyed participating in another eventful season.
